Georgia- you've been on my mind... it's time I scan the pics and share a little glimpse of
our Southern Living Life
In the early 70s, Richard would complete his academic studies at the University of AZ- and it would be time for him to put that hard earned degree to use
He was offered and accepted a position with the University of Georgia-Athens
doing what- well, we were kids and didn't really pay that close attention..
but he'd spend his work days at the newly constructed Aderhold Hall
- home to the college of Education
We'd start to say "Go Dawgs" and learn new lyrics to
The Battle Hymn of the Republic
We'd get a dog
and name him Max
We'd grab mom's cookie sheets
to use as a sled..
and make do with what we had for boots...
as snow hardly lasted long enough to warrant true winter gear
There would be teams
to join
And parades
to prep for
we'd get in the
spirit of '76
and think it's cool that mom works at your school..
we'd drag our favorite Uncle (Boo!)
to some new place in Florida...
where elephants fly
and a donkey poses for a picture..
we'd sit with our grandparents at the base of a Stone Mountain
and celebrate birthdays with smooches and homemade pie
we'd play dress up..
pretending to be just like our dad
did someone call for a doctor?
we'd head to the capital
for a family adventure..
and head to the hills in search of a castle
(Biltmore Estate)
We'd embrace all things 70s..
be it a canopy bed or knee high socks..
and we'd sing in the choir
more friends would come to visit..
the lure of a castle too good to pass up
there would be marshmallows to toast
and presents to unwrap
And while we enjoyed our southern life-
the call to head home was soon
felt by us all...
Thank you 145 Clyde Road
for the sweet memories we enjoyed
during our time in the south...
